If I import a NEF into LR (so that I can use LR's organizational function, not its edit function), but would prefer to edit in ACR, rather than in LR, there seems to be no easy way. If I click on "edit in Photoshop" in LR, I'll go straight to Photoshop, not to ACR. If I use Bridge to get to ACR, and then try to import my changes into LR, I get a message saying that LR won't import because the image is already in the LR catalog.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks.

Re my post of a minute ago: my "signature" is wrong. I'm working with LR 2.1, if that's relevant to my question.

If you are doing your raw processing in ACR and you wish LR to see these edits you have to set ACR to save the edits to a sidecar xmp file.
I am not sure why you would want to do this since the main function of LR is the development of raw files. This is done in the develop module and it has all the functions that ACR has!!!

The Lightroom Develop module IS Adobe Camera Raw.

Thanks. Yes, I know but I prefer the interface of ACR.

You will get used to LR !!:lol:

Marvin,

As Denis says, using bridge and ACR, the Parametric Image Adjustment data will be saved in an XMP file. Instead of trying to re-import to LR after returning from CS, with the consequent 'already there' error message, try reading the metadata from the XMP file. Library menu > Metadata > Read Metadata from file.
