I got carried away with painter tool and attached the squirrel name to a picture of a vulture.
What is the quickest/efficient way of fixing this?

There are a couple of ways to do this, Bob. The simplest is to highlight the photo, select the Keyword List in the right pane, look for the keyword "squirrel" and uncheck the box in front of it.

Alternatively, you could open the Keywording section in the right pane and select "Enter Keywords" in the box to the right of Keyword Tags. Highlight the word squirrel and press Delete, then Enter.

Thanks- Peter

I did the first step you have suggested.

Bob, amplifying Mark's suggestion for future use, note that with the painter tool selected, those photos with the 'paint object'(eg keyword squirrel) already apllied are framed in bright white. If you hover the brush over one of these, it turns to an 'eraser' icon and you can remove the paint object.

Mark and Brad,

Thanks for the tips!
