Oops, lost metadata - help!

So I am new to lightroom and made a big mistake. I edited 3'' photos from my recent trip to Mexico (time consuming and irritating due to dust on the lens and sensor). I added some captions but I needed to organize the photos. Unfortunately, I moved them into various folders via finder windows on my Mac. When I imported them and synchronized my folders I apparently lost all of the editing that I did and captions I added. Is there any way to get it back? Is it linked to the photo in any way? I'm dreading going back and spot healing all of that Mexican dust!

Hi dhocking, welcome to the forum!

Are the original imports, complete with metadata, still showing in your LR catalog somewhere, albeit with question marks on them? Or do you have a catalog in which it's saved? If so, we can talk you through relinking with the moved files.

I think it's gone

Thanks for the reply. I've been watching Lightroom tutorials so I can actually learn how to use the program. I think my problem is that after moving the files to new folders in the finder window I imported and then synchronized everything. I think I had the box checked to delete missing photos when I synchronized.

Alas, I will just have to re-edit everything. Hopefully I can get it done in time to show it to my class tomorrow.
