I hope it's ok to put two feature requests in one post...

I'm working with LR2 and I must say I'm impressed with the new features. Of course, there are still a few missing ;)

1. I'd like to have the possiblility to create one identy plate, save it somewhere and use it with other catalogs. I'm using different catalogs now and I must change the identity plate with every new catalog. It's not that much work for me but still...

2. Tethered shooting. Please give it to me... When I'm in the studio I'd like to shoot tethered. I'm using Aperture now just for this purpose.

Rudy,

1. There's a work around. Create your Identity Plate in an empty catalog, as a template, and then just copy the empty catalog as the starter for a new catalog. (Only marginally more convenient than starting from scratch.)
2. It can be done now, using the watched folder import capability, and your camera mfg's software. I'm a Canon shooter, so it comes with my camera. I think Nikon makes it a separate purchase? Again, it's fairly clunky, or so I'm told.

It's worth making adding your voice at Adobe. To access the official feature requests, click 'Bug Report' at the top of the Forum. (It's a dual purpose form...)

Hi James!

You can save your identity plates now. Once you get it the way you like it go to the top of the dialog where it says "Custom" and pull down the menu. You'll see an option for "Save as..." Select that and save it. Then when you create a new catalog you can click the find file button and pick your saved plate.

You can shoot tethered as well. Set up your camera's software to deposit tethered shot into a specific folder. Then tell LR to watch that folder. Whenever you shoot it hits the folder and LR imports it and moves to wherever you specified when you set up Watched Folders.

I hope that helps!

Brad & Gene,

Thanks for your replies!

Gene, for the identity plate, I already did the first part "Save as..." but what do you mean with the find file button? Thanks!

Concerning the tethered shooting: I've tried the watched folder thing already with version 1.x. Unfortunately: Nikon charges a serious amount for Camera Control Pro, Canon users have theirs for free... This is the reason I'm using Aperture (or Capture One) just for the tethered part...
I want to pay for LR2 but I don't want to pay for software that has to be "free" (certainly with the D3).

Gene, I'm not sure that saved ID plate will work with a different catalog. I'm pretty sure that ID plates are saved internal to a catalog, and not globally. That was one of the very first questions I asked when I got involved with LR, and I don't think it changed with v2.'.

I could be wrong, but I just tested your suggestion, and it seems to work as I remember.

Brad,

Yes. you are right. I meant to say that if you are saving a graphic logo from, say Photoshop, you can use the locate file function and pull it into a new catalog. We do still need a central repository for ID plates. Perhaps LR 2.5?

I too want tethered shooting. In fact I want it sooooo much I'd be willing to write a plugin if only Adobe would add a Lightroom import plugin.

I'm looking at Lightroom 2, and cant get over the fact that it costs nearly twice that of Aperture and I don't get decent plugin support. I also prefer Apples 'non' modal system but I just cant make myself like the fact that in full screen mode the histogram floats, so I keep having to move the damn thing!

Anyway, I didn't like the fact I needed to pay Nikon just to tether into Lightroom so I wrote a simple program to download images as their taken. Your all welcome to try it, if you have a Mac :)

I Shameless self promotion perhaps, but have a look (its called StudioTether) http://www.mountainstorm.co.uk/photography/Software/Software.html

Regarding the ID plate there is no reason why they could not just save it in the presets folder so that it is accessible from any catalogue. Anyway just takes a few minutes to set the ID plate to my 5 catalogues.
