Lightroom Version
On my Acer laptop running XP Pro I have just deleted 23GB of photos from my data drive (after backing them up) now when I open Lightroom 1.4 all the files in the L/H pane in Library mode are in red but I can still access the photos although I get a message

‘The named “IMG_****.CR2” is offline or missing’!

My question is how can the photos still appear in Lightroom when they have been deleted from the HD?

Hi Mark, thanks for your prompt reply, yes I would like to erase them from my laptop Lightroom ready for a wedding shoot I’m doing tomorrow, if there’s a quick way this can be achieved!

Select all those missing and press "Delete". Then "delete from Catalog".

BUT BE AWARE! All changes you made to them will be lost! They are not saved with the orinal images until you choose to "Save all changes to XMP" in the preferences or selected prior to deletion and pressed Ctrl-S.

As you seem to be new to Lightroom, I will sugest you some readings...

EDIT: Or maybe you already transfered them (Export as Catalog including Negatives) to another machine?...
If you really wanted to trash both form the Catalog and from disk, the easiest way is doing so from Lightroom: It offers you the choice to delete from catalog only or both.

Thanks for the information Denis; I will have a look at the reading list as I have asked my wife to get me a Lightroom book for my 68th birthday this month.
One is never too old to learn!
