Offline or missing image warning--way to turn it off?

Is there a simple way to not have LR tell me my photo is offline or missing across the top of my image? For some reason I only see this sometimes, it isn't always there when I'm offline, but I'd rather not see it at all, as the folder list tells me which folders are offline anyway.

Suggestions?

It is showing up in the Library module. I have 1:1 previews, but of course I am offline from the actual images. Any way to turn the warning off?

Where are you seeing it? What action makes it pop up? Can you provide a screen shot?

I work with my images offline much of the time, and I can't remember ever seeing this in Library.

It doesn't show up all the time for me either. But when it does, it's very irritating as it covers a good portion of the top of the image. See screenshot below (if I've managed to insert it correctly).

In "Catalog Settings", "File Handling" tab, what is your choice of "Standard Preview Size"? You should have at least the number of pixels of your monitor. If your monitor is 128', then 144' is OK. Plug the offline images, select all images and in Menu -> Library -> Previews, select "Render Standard Size Previews". You should then see this message much less if not at all when offline.

I usually work with 1:1 previews when editing offline. Will that still work for me?

That will still work for sure. But check the settings from my previous message and lets see if that helps as a 1:1 preview was probably not needed for the one in your screenshot unless the image was very small to start with.

Michelle, what did you do that made the message pop up? Had you just clicked on the rotate button (which is highlighted and has the tooltip visible)? I'm trying to find a way to recreate this.

I think that is just where my cursor was when I did the screenshot. I've noticed this message pop up seemingly at random. I did the changes that Denis suggested and for most of my folders I don't get the message, but for half of the images in the folder I am working on, it still pops up.

Two more screenshoots from the same folder. Only the second is showing the message. I rendered standard previews for the folder, but am still getting the warning.

I think Denis may have had the answer after all -- I am able to recreate this if:
- I'm in Loupe view
- I'm viewing an offline image
- No standard preview has been built.

Might also work to have a too-small preview built, but I didn't get that far. In either case, the answer would be to have a big-enough preview built before taking the image offline.

Thanks for the info. It is strange because I do render 1:1 previews before going offline for all images so I can do a detailed edit at 1''% to cull images. It maybe that some were missed though.

Is there a difference between rendering 1:1 previews and the standard previews?

There is a difference between 1:1 previews and standard previews, but I suspect you knew that already. Standard previews are smaller (typically). But if you render 1:1, you also get the smaller sizes automatically.

If there were indeed 1:1 previews already (or large enough standard previews), then we'll have to keep hunting for another explanation.

I was just wondering whether LR treated the previews differently, rather than whether the previews were themselves different. I am still finding the issue, although interestingly enough only on recently imported images, not those already in LR.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll see what happens on the next import. Perhaps if I render standard previews first then the 1:1s might make a difference.
