Now what? Help!

I got a new computer today to replace the dead one. (YES!!!)

Since the old one died I have been reconstructing my entire catalogue on the laptop. So I have all the previews and the backups in one folder that contains the LRCAT File. All the rest - that is, the RAW and TIF and jpg files all live on a removable drive which is now connected to the new desktop.

The previews are 7.18 gigs. I guess I could let those be regenerated on the Desktop.

My question is: what do I move? Just the folder with the lrcat file and the backups? Is that the lot? If I copy this folder, without including the previews to the new computer and then just run the lrcat file will I be back in business (minus the previews of course)??

Katherine, you'll be missing preferences and presets.

You'll need to copy those from old to new as well, after LR is installed on the new.

Data\Adobe\Lightroom\Presets\

Windows Vista - [systemdrive]\Users\[your username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe

Prefs:
Windows XP - [systemdrive]\Documents and Settings\[your username]\Application
Data\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences\Lightroom 2 Preferences.agprefs

Windows Vista - [systemdrive]\Users\[your username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe
\Lightroom\Lightroom 2 Preferences.agprefs


Don't forget those locations are 'hidden' by default on Windows (Bill knows best). Go Control Panel > Folder Options > View Tab, about half dozen items down, click the 'Show Hidden Folders & Files' radio button.
