Now another problem AAARRRG!!

As I mentioned in another post, as time permits I'm going back and keywording old images and adding them to the catalog in a new file structure. These older images are on an external drive which was named J, I believe. A while back I had turned the power off to do electric work on the house. At that time I switched off J. After I restored the power, and at some point before switching on J again, I created a new partition on my C drive. The software named that partition J. When I switched on the old J it automatically was renamed K.
Now in my folders panel I have a J drive showing green but with folders all greyed out and ? on everything. I have a K drive showing green but with a few folders there all greyed out with ? on them too. I have screwed around with this mess so much I don't remember what I did to get those few folders into the K. They were a part of all that was together at one point. I have tried the synchronize folders thing and that didn't do any good.
The files are all still physically located on the K drive. I thought that I could just import them on to the J partition from the k drive. That works, EXCEPT, no keywords come with them. And that was the point of all my work in the first place.
If anyone can make any sense of all this, and has any ideas that don't involve hammers or shotguns, I'd appreciate it. Ernie

Once again, don't re-import! Re-importing is almost never the answer, just gets you into trouble. Try to keep that in mind for next time -- any time you're considering re-importing, don't. Ask for help instead.

You just need to right-click on the top-level folder and choose Find Missing Folder, and point to the new location.

Since you've already imported some things from K, this might not work. If not, let us know and we'll work through it.

I did that, but tried again. It just says the missing folder is already in LR.

Avoid hammers. I find them overkill when trying to bring computers to their senses. Good luck. You're in good hands around here.

Ernie, is it realistic to remove everything you've already imported from K:, then do the Find Missing Folder thing, then re-import those things? Or have you done too much with them already?

Or, another idea -- try Update Folder Location instead of Find Missing Folder, if that choice is available.

I have tried the find missing folder. I also just says the photos are already in LR. Where do you find update folder location, I couldn't find it.
The more I think about it, now that I'm a little calmer, I think I'm going to have to wipe it all out and start over. I think the problem is that I've previously told LR there's some pics on a J drive. Now there's still a J drive hooked to LR, but it's not the same J drive that it was before. Humm, that makes me think(I know-dangerous) I'm going to try just moving, outside of LR on the OS, some of those pics back to the new J drive. If LR thinks they should be there, then I'll put them there and see if LR sees them again. Be back in a little bit.

Glad you've got it worked out!

There's a way on Windows to permanently assign a letter to a drive, so that won't happen in the future. Not being a Windows guy, I don't now the magic incantation, but perhaps someone else will chime in.

Yes, I've seen it, but now that everything is ok I'm leaving well enough alone. Besides the letters don't really matter much, as long as I remember what is where.
