Moving/ copying catalog to a faster drive

I want to move my catalog on an old external drive to another faster firewire drive (Lacie rugged). My images are scattered amongst various other external drives. I hear that copying is best. Makes sense, so that nothing goes missing.

Please tell me best procedures, which files to move/ copy over.

Your question is a little confusing. At different times you refer to moving your catalog, and to moving your photos.

Didn't say anything about moving photos , just where they were placed. Think I've figured it out now anyway. Thanks, big help.
