Hello,
I've just changed my camera from a Sony A7R Mk. 3 to the latest A7R Mk 5 and now when I connect camera and computer to import to LrC, although an outline of a thumbnail appears for each photo, the image does not. I can double click a thumbnail and then I get a fullscreen image, and there's no problem actually importing the photos - it's just unnerving to have a screen of blank thumbnails in the Import window. (If I wanted to do a selected import, I would not easily be able to).
Is there anything I can do to correct this, is it a known glitch ?
I have not come across anything like this before.
I am running an iMac with Monterey v 12.6.8

Thanks for your suggested solutions, however I have now found the answer: I had been...
Are you importing from a card reader or from a direct camera connection?

What file format is the A7R5 set to save images as? The A7R5 has several image file types you can select. When I first got my A7R5 (moving from Canon DSLR's) I was impressed with having several choices for RAW files. However, I quickly discovered that several of these did not include what is needed (imbedded JPG?) for LrC to display a thumbnail in the import dialog. I cabn't recall which they were but I think they might have been the compressed RAW formats.

Hiya, I shoot in RAW only (both on the Mk 5 and the Mk 3. The RAW image contains a small jpg preview file and it is that which LrC reads when it first displays images to be imported.

Thanks for your suggested solutions, however I have now found the answer: I had been connecting camera and computer via the MTP camera menu option, but when connecting with the MSC option, the thumbnails appear. Quite why this is so, I do not know but it works and so resolves my problem.

I had been connecting camera and computer via the MTP camera menu option, but when connecting with the MSC option, the thumbnails appear. Quite why this is so, I do not know but it works and so resolves my problem.

The bug you're tripping over, to which Adobe employee Rikk Flohr referred above:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/ligh...show-previews-in-import-dialog/idi-p/13841222

breaks the default method LR uses for transferring photos from a camera via USB cable (Media Transfer Protocol or Picture Transfer Protocol).

Some cameras, like yours, provide an additional USB method, MSC (Mass Storage Connection). This lets the operating system and LR access the camera memory card as a regular file system, e.g. like a card reader or thumb drive. The bug doesn't affect this mode.

I've added changing the mode to MSC as one of the workarounds for the bug:
