Does anyone have a solution to resolve the problem of Lightroom not connecting to the internet? My PC is connected, all my other apps are working fine, I have Mail, I can Google any subject and get answers but I get this message when I open Lightroom - "Your computer does not appear to be connected to the internet". It means I can't sync photos from my phone nor can I access any of the AI features in the various modules. Help!

Sounds like a firewall or some anti-virus application blocks Lightroom Classic.

Johan, Thanks for your reply. I didn't think it was my Firewall or anti-virus as the problem was intermittent. Lately it had been a fairly constant problem. Anyway, I turned off my Firewall and it didn't make any difference at the time but, for whatever reason, I now have a connection! Maybe it's the old "turn it off and turn it on again" solution!

My "Connection" problem has come back! The funny thing is I can get a perfect connection (with all AI options) on my Laptop but not on my Desktop. Any advice/suggestions appreciated.

For most of January I had the same "You don't seem to be connected to the Internet ...." messages from Adobe - duh - if I'm not connected how are you seeing my messages? Occasionally I got messages saying "... the Adobe Servers cannot synchronize your subscription .....". I was also often able to logon to Adobe Creative Cloud and Photoshop but not Lightroom Classic - weird ...
During that period we did have local electricity failures about every 3rd day and there were some acknowledged CloudFlare problems in Bangkok - we live in NE Thailand. Now things have stabilised and hope it stays that way. I blame that darn butterfly alighting on a bush in Western Canada !!!

A more likely cause might be solar flares during the current solar maximum in the 11 year cycle (25)

Hi Thomas and thanks for getting in touch. I have no problems with the Adobe or Photoshop sites, it's just Lightroom Classic! I don't feel comfortable disabling my anti-virus to see if that makes a difference (and even if it did, I couldn't leave it disabled in the long term). I don't use a VPN on my home PC and I don't know enough about Firewalls to start messing with them.

You should not even be using an anti-malware app on your Lightroom image files. People oftern complain about how slow Lightroom or other apps are when in reality it is the anti-malware app sitting between your app and your data that is taking all of the resources that your app could be using . Once you have imported your image file, it should not be accessed by any other app except Lightroom. If you follow this rule, the data on your image files should never be corrupted. You can exclude the Lightroom app and all associated files and folders accessed by Lightroom.

Temporarily, you can safely turn off your anti-malware app and all other apps and let Lightroom be the only app that accesses the internet. If this solves your internet problem, we can work on making your anti-malware app less intrusive.

Keep in mind that the anti-malware app companies encourage your fears. Macs have always been mostly safe and Microsoft has improved their fixes on discovered vulnerabilities. If you OS is fully up to date then the only malware you need to worry about is those developing that have not been patched by Microsoft or Apple.

Cletus,
Thanks for the reply and the explanation. I've since discovered that I had a SECOND VPN working in the background. I've turned that off and "Hey Presto" I have full access to all the Lightroom AI features. I'm also going to delve into the anti-malware app to take Lightroom out of the loop.
