I cannot see any images in the import dialog.

Lr Classic has stopped importing images on my windows 11 PC. It was working fine until I successfully imported some HEIC files from my iphone 13pro.
They imported fine and I was able to export them as intended as jpegs. PC was then shutdown.

I went back into Lr again to continue but import now not displaying any image in the import dialog window. Its the same issue if I use iphone, Fuji RAW+jpeg or images on my hard drive.

A mouse click to select a folder makes the "file loading wheel" briefly flash.

I have tried computer restarts, creating a fresh catalog and installing the latest 14.3 release.

I have included a screen shot of general preferences.

Thanks in advance for any suggestion / advise..

Is include images in subfolders selected? if not select it

Try selecting "all Photos" rather than "New photos" and also uncheck the "don't import suspected duplicates"

If any of those fixed it then you know what it was.

If still same problem, try importing an image from the same drive that your catalog is on (as we knowthat LrC can get to that drive or catalog wouldn't load. Next try resetting preferences and if still no joy, uninstall and re-i9nstall LrC.

It would probably help if you could include a screenshot of your import dialog. Note that what you did in your first post to attach a screenshot didn't work.

Two screen shots attached (hopefully)

In your first screen shot there are three things that caught my attention
  1. You don't have a tool bar under the mode bard (copy, add, etc.) which should be there wit options for displaying "All Photos" or "New Photos"
  2. You also don't have a bar below that one, with the "All photos" box on the left and the photo count on the right
  3. There is nothing in the central area (which of course is your problem) - but if the source folder were empty you should see "No Photos Found" and if it's not empty you should see the two bars mentioned above
I am able to sort of reproduce your problem on my Windows/11 LrC/14.3 system. In the screen shot below it shows that there are 7 photos in the selected folder, but it is not showing any of them even though I have "All Photos" selected and "Don't impor suspected duplicates" unchecked. I was not able to click on the "All Photos" checkbox on line with the image count.

With 14.2 (Below), this problem does not appear

After re-installing 14.3 the problem went away.

The reason why you do not see these 7 photos in your first screenshot is because the small arrow behind "7 photos" is pointing to the left. It should point downwards, as you can see in your second screenshot. I'm not sure why you could not select the 'All Photos' checkbox, though.

Good catch.

Hi
The problem continues of no images appearing in import dialog area.

The suggested actions above have been taken taken.
LrC 14.3 release uninstalled & and reinstalled. Keep preferrences selected.
Win 11 PC restarted.

Followed by -
LrC 14.3 release uninstalled and 14.1.1 release reinstalled. Keep preferrences selected.
Win 11 PC restarted.

The panel is unchanged with not all the tools bars not shown as the previous post described. (New screen shot)

The process messages "finding files" "loading data" briefly appear in bottom left corner when a folder is selected.

Thanks in advance for any further suggestions / advise..

Going down the list here,

Still concerned about not seeing the "no images" text in the central area which implied to me that it thinks there are images to display, and also not seeing the All Photos / New photos line at the top of the grid. That missing bar at the top of the grid also contains an image count but as it's missing we can't see if it has a count of images to show and is just not showing them or if it doesn't think there are any to show.

Have you tried turning off your GPU?

Actually I'm having a similar but opposite problem with LR/Desktop. In the "Add Photos" dialog I can see the images in import grid but cannot see ANY images in either of the album Grid views. Can see images in Loupe view, comare view and film strip. All other Adobe apps and views work as they are supposed to. Adobe has spent 6 hours so far in remote sesisons trying to figure it out but that was all level 1 support. Next week I have an appt with level 2 support. My problems started (I think) when I switched from the default Dell graphics card driver that came with the computer to the Nvidia Studio driver directly from the Nvidia site and at the same time swapped from connecting my monitor using HDMI to use Display Port. I don't use LR/D all that much and didn't notice it till a month later so the problem may not be related to the graphics driver and connection mode all - but it might. I need to retest going back to HDMI and if Adobe Level 2 can't crack it, see if I can go back to the Dell Driver.

Have you made any graphics card driver changes? I suspect not.

Hi

Thankyou for you continued interest and comments.

I have not made any changes to the graphics card prior to this problem or a driver update.
This is a newly built PC in Feburary 2025. Plenty of memory for the tasks Im trying to carry out.

LrC 14.2 release was working fine until I had successfully imported some HEIC files from my iphone 13pro.
They imported fine and I was able to export them as intended as jpegs. Upon reopening LrC to import a few HEIC files from iphone, this
import issue occured.

I have added some other screen shots related to GPU & drivers for information.

Hi
Thanks for the prompt.
To be honest I was unshure how to and I have also been away for a few days.

Anyway I have now turned off Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling in system>display>graphics. Rebooted PC and I still don't see any images in the import dialog. Hoping that is what was suggested.

Hi

Yes resetting the Preferences has thankfully fixed the problem with the import dialog.
LrC restored to v14.3.1 and GPU acceleration switched back on.

Screen shots show menu all options now appear whether importing from iphone or the PC hard drive.

I have carried out a number of different imports and the problem has not re-occurred. So how the Preferences file got corrupted will probally remain a mystery.

Thanks all for your help.
Case closed, for now, anyway.

kind regards

Andy S
