One of the reviews of the new features said:

"Due to the required for the new model Lightroom 2.' does not support hierarchical collections of the type created in version 1.x, but any that may have already created will be migrated over to your version 2.' catalog."

Does this mean no more user defined catalog hierarchies? The example seems to have subfolders but it was only showing the smart collections (which are very cool BTW).

The wording seems odd in that it seems to imply that there might be hierarchical collections but that the version 1 type is different from the version 2 type.

Thanks for any clarifications since the more I get into LR, the more useful collections seems to be.

LR2 has what's called Collection Sets. They are exactly what they are named. They work like a collection of collections. You can drag images to collections within a set, but the set itself doesn't work like the old collections in that it doesn't contain images itself, only other collections. You can place sets within other sets.

The team are likely waiting to see what the feedback is like, before an absolutely final decision is made on the new collections setup. Either way, 'something' will be done to pull your collections data into the 2.' release correctly when it's upgraded.
