The lens Corrections panel offers AUTOMATIC and CUSTOM. When chosen they show different results.
My Q is, why does Lr report in both cases that the embedded profile has 'already' been applied.

Mirrorless cameras have lens metadata embedded in the file itself. What that metadata corrects varies by camera, but in that case, it's only distortion. A LR lens profile can then be applied on top, to fix the chromatic aberration or vignetting.
 
Oh I see that from time to time too. Another browser usually does the trick, or I just log in with one of the other login options (the Get Satisfaction one usually)
