Newbie In Need Of Assistance

Hi Everyone I am new to this forum and would appreciate anyone's comments. I need to say for the record that I am new to LR 2.5. I was and to some degree still using Adobe ACR although merging more to LR. I have the following Questions if anyone knows the most effective way to do it.

1. If I make adjustments to DNG files in lightroom how do i make those changes visible in Raw (ie: apply a preset in lightroom) and is visible in ACR ?

2. Workflow Question - I commonly edit a number of images in LR with Presets to make life faster. Once I have made all adjustments to the DNG file I then do a High Res JPG export to storage media. I then go and covert all of the colour adjusted DNG files into Grey Scale and do a 2nd Export to JPG. the problem then is when i try and convert them back to what they were "Before" converting to Greyscale. For some reason I can not quiet work out the best way to "Preserve" the edited Colour DNG file.

Any comments would be appreciated. All I want to be able to do is have a colour version / Greyscale version and maintain the changes to the colour DNG file.

1. Do a ctrl-s after you have finished processing the dng. It will save your changes to the dng file. They should then appear when you open the file in ACR.

2. After processing the color dngs, select all (ctrl-a) and create virtual copies of all images. W/ the virtual copies still selected, convert to greyscale. You now have both a color and a greyscale version of each image. No need to export as jpeg unless you need the jpeg for some external purpose.

In part 2 of Bruce's answer, you could go a step further, and create a collection of virtual copies in a single step, which may provide a bit of additional organization to your workflow.

So picture a collection set called 'Shoot title' (or something meaningful in your workflow, client name?) with two child collections, 'Color' and 'B/W'. Nice and neat, all sorted for export, if required. Personally, I use this more for different crop ratios, but same idea.

Have a look at the options available when you select a handful of grid images, and press the + sign on the Collection panel header bar in the Library Left Hand Panel.
