Hello, I am a newbie to post processing, photo organizing etc. I store all my pictures on an external Seagate Backup Plus drive and have a 2nd copy on another external Seagate drive.
I attempted a first Import of pictures and wanted to ADD as I already have a chronological folder structure for my pics. My external HD is listed as a Source.
LR however will only allow Copy, Copy as DNG or Move. Please help, so confused as ADD seemed to be the best option...?

I should add my external HD is my working drive although I should probably move the photos I want to edit on my laptop itself and once done processing move back to the external HD. Thanks in advance. :)

ADD should be the default when you select the external drive, though you can manually change that to Copy, etc. If it's defaulting to Copy/Copy as DNG it implies that Lightroom thinks your drive is a removeable drive, not a hard drive.

Can you post a screenshot showing the Import screen with the external drive selected as the source? And in File Explorer can you click on "This PC" to show all the connected devices, and post a screenshot of that?

Absolutely thank you Jim. Here are the screenshots requested:

ADD is already selected! You are trying to import images at the root of the drive. Are there any images at the root? Check ‘include subfolders’ at the top if the images are in the subfolders, or select the correct subfolder.
