New too LR and problems with system?

I have installed the trial Lightroom2 and I'm experiencing a stopping and delays when in the develop mode (maybe other modes as well, but I haven't gone any further yet)....Possibly my system is too old? I'm using AMD Athlon 24'' with 1.5 gigs of ram...it has worked great with photoshop but possibly too slow for LR?? And as I am isolated up here in Maine with no visible classes on LR that I can find, does anyone know of a good book or tutorial for the simple minded (like myself ?) PS; I'm new here but hope to be just full of questions that I'm suer you fine folks will be tripping over yourselves to answer....Thanks!!

Welcome aboard, for books/tutorials, start by using the "Help" menu in LR which will direct you to the Adobe site with plenty of references to both books and tutorials.

Hey, thanks folks...I have gone to the help and started ...doesn't do much for slow...but fills in some of the blanks in way of use...Ohhhhh, I hate the learning curve....Went to Borders today and checked out their scant section on LR....I've got a lot of work to do to catch up...

Is that the XP 24''+? If so, don't expect miracles. Lightroom really likes faster multicore processors. As a guess, does it take you about 15 seconds to generate/regenerate a 1-1 preview in the Library module?

If you have lightroom 1 and Lightroom 2 installed, it will be slow. Uninstall Lightroom 1 and try it again. It has worked for many people. Try it!
