My laptop screen is broken and I am getting a new laptop. Will I be able to copy Lightroom 1.3 from my old one and copy to my new one? If not, will I be able to install it again from the CD?

[Edit - removed poll and made it into a thread]

Hi Rosie, welcome to the forum!

I've removed the poll to make it a bit easier to answer.

You'll have no problem installing on to the new machine. It's probably simplest to download 1.4.1 from Adobe's website - it's the full program, and it'll just ask you for your serial number.

And you'll need to transfer your images and catalog over to the new machine - here's the instructions on that - http://www.lightroomqueen.com/blog/2''9/'2/28/how-do-i-move-lightroom-to-a-new-computer/

:)Many thanks for that Victoria. I just hope I can find my serial number, as I think I wrote it on the CD cover, which I have left in my house in Spain (not knowing I was going to break the laptop). If that's the case, can I find out my serial number?
One other query, I copy all my imports to external hard drives. But when I go to back them up, I usually get the message 'Cannot back up at this time' or similar - why is this and what can I do to backup? Thanks, Rosie.

Did you register it when you installed it the first time - the name/address/email form that was part of the installation? If so, the details will be on Adobe's website.

Or if you can still access your old laptop, check under the Help > System Info screen and it should say there.

The backups - it sounds like it's trying to back up to a drive or folder that doesn't exist - check the backup location.
