I've used LR2 successfully on a pc, just got a new Mac, switched everything over, with no problems. my pictures are now (as was with the pc) on an external disk which I point lightroom to

but now, lightroom cannot delete photos, nor can it save metadata. all pictures I've made changes to now how the 3 horizontal lines and the !.

I've tried to optimize catalog and relaunch, but to no avail.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. Glad to be here.

it is NTFS
I am also new to Mac... Before I buyed my MacPro last spring, I first checked for hardware compatibility with what I already have and also checked for information exchange between my different computers. The salesman told me that I will be able to read NTFS but not write to it! So, my images are on an FAT32 drive, Lightroom on an HFS drive and Windows on a third NTFS all internals.

Windows wont let you format a very big FAT32 drive but Mac OS X will. If you have room on your internal or elsewhere then backup your external to prepare it for a reformat to FAT32 and put your files back.

Denis is quite correct. NTFS is read only for a Mac. You may also want to check any software that came with your external drive. Sometimes a utility is included to allow for large FAT32 formats.

Are you planning to be entirely mac-based now, or are you still switching between mac and pc? Either way, it's worth temporarily copying the data to another drive, and reformatting the drive. If you're switching back and forth, go for FAT32, or if you're entirely mac now, you're better going with HFS.
