I just rendered hundreds of 1:1 previews but still get
the 5 second lag time and 'Rendering:Larger Preview..' message
scrolling through in Library module. And the image size is
only set to Fit, not 1:2 or 1:1.
Why is Rendering taking place again after hours of 1:1 Rendering??

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum! Can you provide a bit of information about your computer/OS/LR version in your signature so people can better help you diagnose your problem?

Thanks Michael for updating your signature!!
Where are you various files stored i.e. catalog, cache, image files?
I have an iMac G5 with only 1.5GB ram and get only a brief rendering or loading after rendering previews so we need to track down your bottleneck!

Try a small test with maybe 1'' files and render standard previews for them and do the scrolling again.
Also what size is your monitor (pixels) and what size are your standard previews set to? You will find the standard size setting in Catalog Settings.

The previews in question belong to one catalog in particular consisting of about 88'' pictures. Not all the previously created 1:1 previews need to render again but enough to slow editing down significantly.
The preview and catalog files are stored on an internal drive with 96G of space remaining, and located in Pictures/Lightroom/Previews.lrdata along with other catalogs
and previews. The original DNGs are located on an external SATA drive.

My monitor and resolution and Catalog setting are the same at 168'.
