NEF+jpg Question

IMO LR keywording and collections cannot be beat! But I prefer to do my photo editing in Nikon Capture (NX2). As we know, LR does not recognize edits done in NX2.

What I would like to do is:

• 
  [li]copy files from the camera card to a temp file on my computer[/li]
  [li]edit the NEFs to my liking[/li]
  [li]save the NEF[/li]
  [li]then save as a jpg with the same file name (hoping the LR will see the edit in the jpg)[/li]
  [li]import both the NEF and the jpg into LR[/li]
  [li]catalog and keyword the files[/li]

When I import the two files into LR they appear as one file, NEF+JPG. Cool, I thought, the photos are already grouped! Unfortunately, the edits still no not show up. Apparently the original NEF image is displayed, not the edited jpg.

Is there any way to have the jpg displayed so the "true" edited file shows up in LR?

Yes, Edit > Preferences > Import tab > third item, "Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate", enable that check box. You'll have to 'remove' the existing photos from the catalog, and reimport. However, the photos won't be grouped, they'll be two separate photos, with the same filename, and different file types. You could then sort by file name, and auto stack them by capture time.
