Lightroom Version
10.4
Operating System
  1. macOS 10.15 Catalina
I'm using Lightroom Classic version 10.4 on a MacBook Pro.

My Lightroom image files are store in the Pictures folder on my computer in a folder called "New Lightroom Folders." I have managed to import a large number of files (about 6,000) into the Pictures folder and would like to search for only those files so that I can categorize them and then move them into the "New Lightroom Folders" where I want them to reside.

I tried searching the Pictures folder for any text not equal to New Lightroom Folders by using "!New Lightroom Folders" as the search term and only found about fifty files of the 6,000 I think are in Pictures but not New Lightroom Folders.

Any advice?

Thanks for the help,

Roy

If I'm understanding you correctly, you are trying to locate images which are in the root of Pictures, and exclude all images that are in sub-folders of Pictures? If so, on the menu bar click on Library and then uncheck the option to "Show Photos in Subfolders". Then when you select Pictures in the Folders Panel, you will only see those images that are in the root of Pictures and not the images that are in any of the Pictures sub-folders.

I don't know if i understand it correct but do you try to search something that is not in Lightroom yest? That does not work. You can only search what is indexed by Lightroom in it's database.
Roelof,

Thanks for replying. I'm not trying to search for images outside of the Lightroom catalog. I'm trying to search for images that are in the top level folder and are not in subfolders. I also want to exclude every other subfolder in the top level folder.

Jim,
Thanks so much for the assistance. I'm beginning to understand the problem. When I follow your advice. I see that there are 179 images at the Pictures level of the hierarchy. That small number of images will not be difficult to move into where they belong. I thought I have about 6,000 images out of place.
