My Lightroom 6 has failed to open since Windows 11 update in January 25 or so. I get error ?:0: attempt to compare nil with string. Tried repairing with AI help, but so far no luck. Called Adobe twice to get them to deactivate but no luck. Anyone have any suggestions. I tried creating new catalogue, but I get the string after it sputters. Same with optimizing old catalogue, it just sputters. Would like to get it running, deactivate and then intall it in VM with windows 10. Tried changing agrefs preferences file to turn graphics processor off. Not interested in subscription plan

I can say if this is the answer but at some point an 11 year old application won't work on the modern hardware and operating system. This is inevitable. If it hasn't happened to you now it will at some point. Lr 6 has not been supported for many years. If you don't want a subscription plan, your choices are going to be limited. Topaz offers a subscription, On1 offers a subscription. DXO Photolab is available at $240USD which would buy you 2 years of a Lightroom Plan With a Lightroom plan the app does not stop working if you let your subscription lapse. but you do lose some functionaity.

Welcome to the forum, and sorry to hear about your issue. My understanding is that both the Jan. and the Feb. Win 11 updates had a number of bugs that broke many working applications. Can you do a rollback prior to the update and see if that will fix the issue for the time being?

I did some windows 11 system restore points with plenty of space allocated for restores. However, Windows 11 has been deleting some of them on its own. I rool3d back that windows update with the help of Perplexity ai and after weeks of interacting with various ai chats, Pelexity came up with solution 30 minutes ago, and Lightroom finally opened. I am now doing a total disk image backup of my system. And I am thinking about deactivating and setting it up in a Vm machine with Winfows 10. Hope it all works. Thanks for your support.

I can confirm that Lightroom 6.14 does run on the latest January and February updates to Win 11, so the problem must be something specific to your system. Sorry I can't help further.
