My Images Look Better In Lightroom

I am new to LR and was wondering if someone can enlighten me. After importing, correcting and exporting images in LR I find that they never look as good as they do in LR. Outside of LR the images have a muted tone and are sometimes washed out. Is this normal? Am I wasting my time in LR? Help?

Try setting the color space in the Export dialog to sRGB. Sounds like there's a color profile mismatch between the exported file and whatever program you're viewing it in.

Did you look into the "Tips and Tricks" Thread?
Here is one to start with.
This is not the exact answer to your concerns but a good start to color management. Are you working with a Windows operating system?

If you wish to get better support, you are invited to fill in your signature by going to the "User CP" panel (se top left of the page). Look at other's signature to get an idea. OS version, Lightroom version, your name etc...

I did a test changing the color space to sRGB and ProPhoto RGB and neither one looked as it does in LR. Both were washed out.

What tool are you using to view the exported files? Is that tool color-managed? (Probably not. That's why it doesn't look as good using that tool.)

I am saving the images on my drive and uploading them to my website for client viewing. This is done through Imagequix. But it is not just on my end because the files looked washed out on everyone's monitors. I never had this problem before using LR so I can't understand where the glitch lies.

Okay, so you and others are viewing the files using a web browser? That's the core question we've been asking.

You say you're new to LR -- what were you using before LR, that didn't exhibit this problem? Was that tool color-managed? Perhaps your web browser looked the same as that tool because neither was color-managed.

The underlying issue is that you simply can't expect things to look consistent in non-color-managed environments. Most web browsers (all except Safari, and Firefox 3.' Beta if properly configured) are not color managed.

If lack of color management isn't it, another possibility is that you've got a corrupt monitor profile or sRGB profile.

Can you post one of the files, and a screenshot of your Lightroom view?

And do you have Photoshop or another colour managed program that could help us figure out why you're having a problem?
