My computer is assigning a different id to a external hard drive

Hello again.
My computer formerly assigned to the external hard drive in which I keep my back ups "XHardDrive 1(G). Now when I insert the same hard drive into the port, my computer assigns it as "XHardDrive 1 (E). This seems to be preventing me to move images from Lightroom on to the harddrive. I think Lightroom is looking for XHardDrive 1 (G). How do I get the computer to recognize the harddrive as "XHardDrive 1(G) ?
