I'm having problems with itunes playing music with my slideshow in LR2. I know how to add the music and it has worked fine before but now nothing but silence. I'm on a mac. Any help out there?

LR sees my iTunes play lists ok but never plays any music. I have read the article 'linked' above but it doesn't help. I'm using iTunes 8.2.1.

Hi there
I have the same problem. No music on the slideshow. I have mac pro (early 2''8) and the latest itunes and leopard os. Slideshow music works fine on aperture, and used to work with lightroom 2 so I am baffled as to why it has stopped. My lightroom files are stored on a separate drive, but they always have been so I dont think its this this. I would be interested in any solutions or ideas anyone has. No, switching things off and on does not help -its a Mac!!

Tried opening iTunes? When there's an update to iTunes, it often requires you to accept the license agreement again, and until you've done so, Lightroom can't use it.

I have tried with iTunes open and closed. LR opens iTunes automatically but it doesn't play anything. If I start iTunes manually then LR stops it at the end of the slideshow.

Do you need a technical call out Nic???

Hi there

Although switching itunes on and off doesnt make a difference, I went into the preferences panel in itunes and looked through all the options there.I wnet through all of them to see what the options were but didnt actually change anything apart from in General I ticked the applications box, and then it all worked in Lightroom. I then unticked the applications box, and it still worked! Weird. I guess going into preferences might have unclogged something??(technical term). Anyway why dont you try that sizzlingbadger - worked for me!!

Great stuff Nic!! Did you get my PM??

[/quote]Thank you for this! I had this problem last evening and was going to look at it again today. Now I can try this and hopefully it will resolve it for me too.

No, i shall check now. I don't seem to get any notices like I used to with the old system...

Yep I had that problem too until I checked my profile and checked the appropriate box!!!

I have had a similar problem and found that it was new tunes that had been added to the library and that hadn't been played wouldn't play through LR. Once I started the tune playing in itunes and then ran the slideshow, all was well after that and LR would control the music from then on so it could well be a preference getting corrupted somewhere in iTunes

just been doing some more LR slideshows and can't get LR to play any music now. LR will open itunes if it is closed but won't play anything. Tried playing a tune with itunes running and it worked and when the slideshow was quit itunes stopped as expected. Started the show again and no joy with music. Anyone else still having probs?

Did you try checking and unchecking the applications checkbox in the iTunes prefs as in one of the earlier posts Andrew?

yep tried that and no help. Just tired changing a few other prefs and still no joy. But I have had success. I clicked the refresh fromplay list and it stuck on that. Changed it to library and then pressed play and music came out of the speakers. So something somewhere has freed itself. Not sure if LR or iTunes.

I seem to be having regular problems with music now. Nothing seems to be working now.

I have similar issues, starting iTun manually seems to free it up sometimes. I haven't tested it since moving to Snow Leopard, I will give it a go. iTunes has had a few upgrades since LR 2.4 so maybe something Apple did has broken it.

i'm not upgrading to leopard as my printer isn't supported so i hope it can get sorted.

I just fired up LR selected the Genius play list and it started playing almost straight away.. not sure how long that will last though !

I thought i would have another go and used a track that i knew had worked in the past and all was ok. Then tried another track that wasn't working and now it works. Something is very flaky between the two programs. LR will start iTunes up if it isn't running, it just doesn't seem to always play the tune though.

Just bringing this thread back to life. I was having the same problem and the only thing that makes it work for me when it won't start playing iTunes is to go to iTunes and play a second of any song, the stop it, go back to Lightroom and play the slideshow. If iTunes isn't open it always opens it but every so often will not start playing. Some have suggested that any time an upgrade to iTunes occurs the communication needs to somehow be initialized. That may very well be the case.

Correct, more often than not there's a new license agreement popup when you update iTunes, and it won't allow anything to play until you go into iTunes and ok it.
