Multiple Catalog Tip

To be honest Nik there wasn't much new there. I think there is an argument for having separate catalogues but you need to have a logical way of splitting them. Personally I have a different catalogues for each of my previous digital cameras and even one for my scanned film photos. The latest catalogue for my 3'D is getting pretty big now. I also have a catalogue which has of the above and performance wise is pretty slow.

The recommendation on the site referred to suggests a new catalogue for every shoot but if you shoot every day then you are going to endup with a awful lot of catalogues and I think it would become unworkable.

I save as much as I am allowed to in xmp sidecar files and any VC's are saved as a snapshot with the master. So if my catalogue does go belly up then I just need to creat a new one.

That's an unbelievably shortsighted podcast. He sees nothing wrong in breaking up control of his picture collection because he hasn't looked beyond the end of his nose.

Interestingly enough, I wrote a strong but polite disclaimer in the comments on that podcast post. Given the author's professed lack of experience with both Lr and his new workflow, I recommended readers seek additional guidance and research before adopting the recommended strategy.

That's certainly not good considering his usual mantra of sharing and learning from everyone. His podcast (with Rick Sammon) Photofocus has been quite good.
