Multiple adjustment sets in xmp

Ansel Adams made some 2' or 3' prints of Moonrise over Hernandez according to one biography I read. Some show the clouds in much more detail, others emphasize the foreground, for example. From what the book had to say about his attitude toward innovations in photography I think he would have loved to have a single DNG file of his original exposure that also contained metadata for each of the variations he came up with for the prints.

I think that is what is happening with snapshots, but there is no indicator that multiple snapshots are available in the badges area. So that's feature a request.

But even more, when I jump over to photoshop to do an edit and come back, I now have two files, the original dng and a new tiff file. I'd rather have one file, even if it is a lot bigger. The stack already shows me that I have two variations, but the feature I'd like for archival storage is a single file that has both these images in it, along with the metadata for each one.

Yes, snapshots are stored in XMP. Our friend Lee Jay is a fanatic about this, and has lobbied hard for Virtual Copies being stored in XMP as well. So as long as adjustments are being made within LR, and appropriate snapshots being set, your wish is being met. However with the additon of edit in PS .....

I didn't respond to this before, because I know there are changes in the integration of LR2 and PS. But I think the result still comes back to LR as a raster file. I just can't see Adobe muddying the DNG waters by embedding a static raster file (excepting the embedded preview).

I made the feature request. I've been working with various photo cataloging systems for several years now, and when I was deep into programming I even wrote one myself which would have stored everything in the database. I really like the concept of having everything associated with a particular image stored in a single file. Then the database and application can easily be rebuilt without losing track of some obscure variation I might have made.

I vote for viritual copies in xml/DNG to. And also collection! This should be fairly easy to just list all the collection the picture is member of. Very simmilar to how LR handle keywords.

With information stored only in the database it's not possible to restore the state of a subset of your pictures and keep the rest as is! And it's not possible for other application to read collection info simmilar to keywords.
