Moving to a new computer with different directory structure for photo's

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum, but I think I checked all the posts... I'm moving to a new computer, and I read a lot of instruction how to migrate the catalogue. Should not be a problem. But: my photo's will have to move to a new directory. And how will Lightroom find them back; is there a way to tell LR for all photo's that they have changed to a different directory on the new computer?

You need to duplicate the directory folder structure from the parent folder on down. Once your image are in the same relative order, you need to 'find' the parent on the new computer. Once that is done if you don't like the old folder hierarchy on the new computer you can create any suitable folder hierarchy and drag the images from the old to the new using LR to do the file moves.

Before you start, on the old computer and using Lightroom Library module create a master/top-level folder and move all your other folders of images into that.Then it is simple to move that one master folder to the new machine.Move all your catalog and preview files across, then install Lightroom.Close LR and double click your catalog file (xxx.lrcat) that you have been using. LR will open with your work but will have "lost" the files.Right click that Master Folder in the Library and you will get the menu to relocate the folder.Bingo and all your files/folders should re-link automatically!
