Moving Stacks! - Help!

Does anyone know if you can move a stack without adding the stack to another stack?

I use manual sort order and move items around on the light table to group like minded images. I also use autostacks for bracketed images. but when I move a stack and try to slip it in between other stacks, it just makes a bigger stack, which I DONT want.

Solutions?

I can replicate in one direction - trying to move an image next to a stack seems to add it to the stack - but not the other direction - I can pick up the stack and move it around no problem. Try collapsing the stack before you try moving it.

I have the same issue -- if I stack images, I cannot move the stacks around because the stacks merge together. WHen I move stack A to a place between stack B and stack C I'm careful that neither B nor C are lighlighted -- all I see is a black line between stacks B and C. But when I release the mouse button instead of moving A between B and C, I will have stacked A onto B. I get the same results whether or not the stack is collapsed. My workaround is that I just don't use stacks, because reordering images is more important to me than stacking. But it would be nice to have both.

You could try closing the stacks before moving them.

I've just come across this exact same problem and am totally mystified that LR effectively does not allow stacks to be moved around! Collapsing them makes no difference as whatever you do it seems LR insists on adding the stacks to each other. I'd have thought one of the main purposes of having stacks was to make it easier to manage and organise large numbers of images by dividing them into bite-sized groups. Not being able to move them around easily seems daft. I have however discovered that if you move the stacks in the filmstrip it is possible to reorder them without having them merge. This is the behaviour I would expect. It is a solution of sorts but if you have lots of stacks you are seeing them in one long line which is far from ideal

Hello,

I've got exactly the same problem as described by pmerts. It is all the more frustrating because, when you move your photo, and before you release your mouse, you can either highlight the left hand stack, or the right hand stack or the space in between. In this last case, you expect that your photo will be moved in this space, but when you release your mouse, your photo is always added to the left or to the right hand stack.

Jonathan workaround works fine (moving stacks in the film strip) but I agree with him, it would be better to get this behaviour with the grid.

Did anyone already described this in the official Adobe bug report?

Would each of you report this to Adobe, please, if you haven't done so already? It is important that each of you express your viewpoint to Adobe separately, and not just one message to cover all of you.

There is a Log Bug/Request Feature link at the top of each page to submit your findings to Adobe.
