hello hello,

I know there have been other posts similar to this one but they have all just really confused me! I want to understand what to do exactly in my case so as not to screw anything up!

I currently have all my pictures stored on my MacBook but I am running out of space. My pictures are separated into two folders "2''8" and "2''9" each with subfolders of all the shoots I did in that year. I would like to move the "2''8" folder to my external HD but still be able to access that folder in lightroom when the external HD is hooked up without having to reimport it all every time. I am pretty sure that I can do this I would just like for someone to walk me through it step by step.

This might be the easiest thing to do in the world but I need help please! :)

Thank you thank you thank you, in advance! :)

Phoebe

Hi Phoebe!!Well done for having a simple and organised folder structure. All you need to do is this.Hook up the external drive and using the OS drag the 2''8 folder to the external drive. When that is done open LR and either select the 2''8 folder or hover the mouse over it and ctrl/click it.Down the list of options is "Update Folder Location".Select this and point to the folder on your external drive.Simple as that. Now you can delete the original folder from the laptop. When the external is off-line the 2''8 folder an images will show a ? but you cab still view the files and use some functions but not any of the develop functions.

You are very welcome. let us know how you got on!! :)
