I rated about 3'' photos in LR2 on one pc and want to move only those rated photos to another pc that has all the same photos but not rated. There probably is a simple solution but I have not been able to find it. I am using Windows XP on both pc's if that makes any difference. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

In Lightroom, you would Export the Catalog, move this newly created catalog file to your other computer, and then on the other computer, in Lightroom Import the catalog. (This works easiest if the photos are in the same folders on both computers)

And preferable to select just those you rated before exporting as catalog in case you made some edits to other images on the destination computer or if you have much more than those on the pc to export from.

Thank you for the response. Do I first make a new folder and move all the rated photos to it? Next, do I export this catalog to my external hard drive so I can import it in LR2 on that computer? If you can provide a step by step procedure, it would be greatly appreciated. I am not very computer savy. Working with 2 laptops,Windows XP and one external hard drive. I apologize for my ignorance.

As you said the photos are on both computers, there is no need to export them with the export to catalog function.

Select those you rated and export to catalog without including the image files themselves. It will ask you to give a name to this exported catalog. Bring that exported catalog to the other computer, open Lightroom and Import from catalog choosing the one you named previously. The edits/ratings will then be updated.

Denis, when I get the dialog box from Export as Catalog, it gives me 3 options:

Export selected photos
Export negative files
Include available preview

Which of these 3 should I check?

Not sure what you mean by "export to catalog without including the image files themselves".

After I have exported and save them to my external drive, I save them to my second computer in the My Computer-My Pictures/Lightroom folder, correct?

Next, I open LR2, Import from Catalog and navigate to My Pictures/Lightroom and select the 2nd folder with the rated folders and it will update the photos with the ratings, correct?

Sorry to keep beating this dead horse but I want to make sure I understand this.

"Export selected photos" should do fine as you already have them with previews on the destination computer.

"Export negative files" is what I meant by saying "without including the image files themselves" as you already have those at destination.

"Include available previews" is as you wish but I think you already see those on the destination computer so there is no need.

See above.

There is no need for the additional step of copying from the external to the destination computer. You can do the "Import from catalog" directly from the external drive. And yes, this will update the ratings and everything else you may have changed for those photos when you were on the other computer.
Sorry to keep beating this dead horse but I want to make sure I understand this.
