Moving Photos to a different hard drive

I just installed a new larger hard drive in my Mac Pro. I currently have all my photos installed on a smaller hard drive and would like to move these photos to the new hard drive. Having tried to moved photos in the past I ended up losing my connection with Lightroom and had to start over. How can I move the photos and not lose the current settings and allow Lightroom to find them.

In my experience, if you're moving a lot of files, the easiest way is to move the photos from small to large hard drive. Open LR, which will then show the photos as missing. Right-click the folder(s) at the top level and select Update Folder Location. Locate the new drive and LR will then be ready to go.

In most cases losing the connection here isn't a big deal. As soon as you right-click and update the location, LR remembers everything and nothing needs to be re-done.
