I want to move several LR catalogs on 2 HDDs and one external drive (on my old XP PC) and consolidate them on one new drive on a new Win 7-64 PC. I want to physically put the 3 drives in my new PC and export the catalogues to a new and empty catalog on the new C: drive, but I am concerned that the old drives will have new (different) drive letters and the pictures will be "lost". How can fix this potential problem.? I'm using LR 2.6 and 2.7.
If the above "drifferent" drive letter problem is too problemmatic should I instead try to link the two computers and export the catalogues from the XP PC to a new and empty catalog on the Win 7 PC. I think I could link them through the wireless router (although they both are "cabled" into the router), but I suspect this would much slower and clumsy than the method in the first paragraph assuming it works okay.
Finally, I have about 18,''' photos spread among the 3 cataloges. What's the latest wisdom about maintaining separate catalogs versus one catalog. Initially, I created multiple catalogues because I didn't have enough space on one drive for a single large catalog. Also, I didn't feel comfortable putting all my eggs into one basket. Have big catalogs proven to be more problemmatic?
