Moving LightRoom to a new computer

I recently changed PCs, backed up all my old files from my HP MediaSmart Home Server. The files are there but when I loaded LR to the new PC, it will not recognize them. I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to file management.

What is your files structure?
Does LR tell you that the files are 'missing'?
Did your catalogue (lrcat), transfer as well?

When you say it doesn't recognize them, do you mean it can't find them, or that it can't work with them? Have you run LR updates, as it could be that your photos are from a camera that was released after 1.'.
