Moving in folders probs

I moved some images from one folder to another in LR and clicked 'move' in the warning message that came up.

The images were already in that folder I wanted to move to.. so I deleted what I thought were duplicates, but it deleted them also in the folder I had been wanting to move them to (on disk)

Is it supposed to do that?

Simon, elaborate a little please, it's not clear what exactly you did.

I think you mean that you deleted (removed?) images from the source folder, and they also disappeared (again, removed or deleted?) from the target folder?



Where: Removed = from LR catalog; Deleted = from disk

yes, I moved images from source to target, then when I 'removed' images from the source folder and they had been removed from target also.

I can't remember whether they had been deleted from disk but I don't think so because I would have specified 'delete from disk' which I would never do with images that I had just moved within LR that I intended to keep

Does that make it any clearer?

So, I'm not sure how you moved the images there, if they were already there.

Secondly, if you actually successfully 'moved' the images (from source folder to target folder) they shouldn't still be in the source for you to 'remove' them.

To answer your main question: No, that's not the intended behavior.
Don't forget, that if you got a 'collection' (as opposed to folder) mixed up in this, the logic is going to be a little more complex.

I've run into similar problems and finally decided there can be considerable lag time between completing a move (from my point of view) until the time the catalog is successfully updated to reflect the move and that success propagated to the screen.

Now, whenever I move images from one folder to another, I always move on to some other chore and give LR several minutes to complete everything before expecting the library to reflect the change. In other words, after I move some images, I plan on not being able to work with them any further for at least a couple minutes, at least until I see both the moved to and the moved from folders look right. So usually I will go so some other folder unrelated to the two involved and work there for a while.

Moving from one folder to another is carried out in background processing because there is a lot of databse checking that needs to take place. Even if you don't have any collections set up, Lightroom needs to check, for example.

However it is a while since this happened now so I can no longer be accurate about what happened

Sounds really weird as on my mac it moves them. That is it removes them from the source folder and leaves them in the destination folder. Moves not copies.
