My catalog size has bloomed, so I want to move it to a different drive.

Can I just check that I have my info right please?

All I need to do is select the Export as Catalog, wait for an age for it to export. Then import the new catalog; then delete the old.

Currently I am waiting on the export. Something is wrong though as its moving all of the photos to the new location!

With LR shut down, you can move the complete catalogue and previews to a new drive and when LR opens up it will ask you where the catalogue is and you just point it to the new one. This is quicker than creating a new catalogue. This may or may not be the correct way but it is how I have done it.

Another way, is move as Andrew states, but after the move, just click on the Catalog to start it and LR will know where it is from there out.

1. Close Lightroom down.
2. Move the folder containing the catalog to the new drive. Make sure to move the folder containing the catalog and not just the .lrcat file. You should also have a sub-folder containing your Lightroom previews.
3. Hold down the CTRL key and double-click on the icon to start Lightroom. In the dialog box that pops up, point Lightroom to the new location of the catalog and click continue. Optionally you can also choose the "Always load this catalog on startup".

Default Catalog

I did move my whole catalog folder to a new location. However, LR won't open it up upon starting. I have tweaked the Preferences and Catalog Settings, even the options when it starts up looking for a catalog, and it never opens up the correct one. It always tries to open from the original default location under My Pictures (which I moved). I have scrubbed my registry and reinstalled LR 1.4 with no success. I am using WinXP.
The other problem I have is that LR doesn't save any of my settings, specifically the Library view options, expanded view. Any changes made here are lost when I restart LR, which is a huge pain. Is that how it is designed?
I wonder if these two problems are connected.
Thanks in advance, C

problems moving lightroom

I moved my Lightroom 2 catalog and assoc pictures from one computer to another but now when I launch LR2 and click on a picture I get a message that '' The file named xxxxxxx is offline or missing''
Help

Thanks,

Kit

Kit,

You will need to close the catalog you have open at the moment and then go to file open and select the catalog in the new location then everything should be ok. If it is you can then delete the original catalog but do make sure the copied one is working correctly first.

Just click on one of the ? on a file and you will be able to link the LR data back to the original file in your finder.
Welcome to the forum and most of all Enjoy LR!!

In the future it is easier to move files/folders within LR so that it keeps a track of them.
