At present I have my photos and catalog on an external HD. I'm adding a second internal HD and would like to move my photos and catalog to the new drive. I'll use the external as B/U.

What is the best way to move my files using LR2.4? (I want to keep the same folder setup)

Thanks

Others will probably disagree, but my advice would be to copy the whole folder hierarchy outside of Lightroom. Then start up Lightroom, right-click the top-level folder in the Folders list, and choose "Update Folder Location" from the context menu to point LR to the new location.

To move the catalog file itself, just move it to the new disk and double-click it to open it in LR.

My recommendation is similar. Clone the old HD to the new HD. If the old HD was drive letter E:, map the new cloned HD to E: and the old HD to some other letter. Once the new HD has been recognised as the old Drive letter, Open LR. It should be transparent

Thanks Mark, I'm sure that will work when I receive the HD.

Rich, I read that your catalog and files are on the one drive and you want to copy that drive. I would do just that, copy the drive contents over and if you double click the .lrcat file after the shift it will open fine.

BACK UP SOMEWHERE FIRST!!!

Thanks Geoff. I don't have the new HD yet, when I get it installed, I'll copy everything over to the new drive and use the external drive for backups...

Finally got the new HD installed (had to wait on a data cable). Copied everything from external HD to new internal HD and double clicked on lrcat file. That didn't work(it tried to install LR), so I opened LR and told it to open new catalog and pointed it to the catalog on the new drive. It's working just fine except for the LR2.4 bugs.... :)
