Moving a number of photos around

At present I have my photos organised in a single hierarchy. The photos are placed in year/month/day folders eg 2016/03/15. I'm thinking of creating a second hierarchy parallel to the current one. This would require me to move a number of photos from their current year/month/day folders to the same folders in the other hierarchy. I can find the photos to move easily enough. Can I move them in one fell swoop? I don't think I can just use rename, or can I? What is the best approach, please? Thanks...

Instead of moving the images, you could use collections for grouping the images together.

I do. If I'm thinking of doing this it's for non LR reasons - it's to split photos in a synchronisation process (using FreeFileSync).
