Hi all

I want to my my Lightroom database and photos from e.g.
C:/My Photos
to
D:/My Photos
What should I move and how?
Guess there is a guide already somewhere here in the forum but I cannot find it.

Thanks in advance!!

Regards
Thommy

Hi Thommy! Welcome to the forums!

When you have a moment please fill out your signature via the User CP link above.

Here is one way...You can move the entire folder structure "/My Photos" from C: to D: and then LR will show you the question mark icon in the upper right of each image indicating it has lost track of the file's location. Select an image that is in the top of your folder structure and click the question mark. Choose locate and then find that image in D:\My Photos. Be sure that the Find nearby missing photos checkbox is checked.

If your image was at the top of folder structure then LR will work its way through and find all the files. If you have a few left out just click their question marks and repeat the procedure.

The .lrcat file IS the database. Is your D: drive internal or external?

Basically, you want to move the .lrcat file and the original photos...

Thank's for the quick response.
Two and a half question left
- How do I tell LR where to put the future backup files(I want these on D: as well)?

- My D: is an internal disc, is this procedure different if I put it on a external disc?

- Is there a description/procedure somewhere here to find about database move or similar?

Best regards
Thommy

Just move the Lightroom folder from one drive to another and/or the whole my pictures folder.
Double click the .lrcat file in the Lightroom folder and LR will start.
For the back up, you have the selection of place to place it when the back up starts. Select then new drive if that is what you want - or anywhere else.
No difference between internal an external moves, you are not moving the application, just files.
I don't think there is any procedure documented anywhere, the thing to watch out for is moving folders of files using the OS rather than moving them in LR. That leads to disconnects and sometimes other problems, always move files/folders that are managed in LR within LR.

Thankyou very much, that answers all my move questions.
I actually thought about another thing also.
My intention is to reinstall windows and LR after the move of LRCAT and
pictures folder.
I now have Lightroom 2.1 installed.
Any concerns to consider if I install 2.2 after the reinstallation of windows?
That is - can LR 2.2 use LR 2.1 LRCAT file?

In this case, you may want to keep a backup of your presets. Look here if you can't find them...

No problem at all here!
