Move the crop window vs. the image

Hi, I m using LR 2.2 x64 on Vista x64.

I find the LR crop rectangle manipulation different compared to other applications.

In other apps when I click inside the crop rectangle and move the rectangle, the rectangle moves, very logical.

In LR when I click and drag inside the crop rectangle the image moves around, not the crop rectangle.

This behavior is very confusing to me, is there a way to configure LR to let me drag the crop rectangle around instead of the image?

Nope. I really like this way, once I had become accustomed to it.

I agree with Geoff. It is especially intuitive if after you have the crop tool you turn out the lights in LR. Then all you see is the cropped image and you can drag around from there.

Just because it is different is no reason to change it. It is much more intuitive, especially for those who have not used all those other apps.

Three years later it is not likely to be changed.

It's also much more intuitive when you consider the rotation tool. Do you really want the crop rectangle to rotate, or do you want to see the image upright?

I strongly agree with the others...while the Lightroom method might be a little confusing at first, once you get used to it you will probably never want to go back. It boils down to a way of thinking. Do you want to move the crop rectangle around the image or the image around the crop rectangle? The Lightroom method keeps the crop centered on your monitor at all times.

And there are a number of tips/tricks/modifier keys to make this method quite productive as well. Sean McC has produced an excellent, concise video on the topic, here.Give that a shot, and see how natural it becomes in experienced hands.

Ok, thanks for all the replies.

"I" still think LR is the only app I know that moves the picture and not the crop, and "I" would still prefer to move the crop window, and "I" still get disoriented when the picture moves around, and "I" would have preferred this to be an option.

But, "I" can't always get what "I" want, and maybe "I" will get used to it

Mark, it is the strongest point in favor of the Lightroom way that I ever read! 8)
