Looked around and don't seem to find anything specific about this issue.

I use a work in progress catalogue on my laptop. Each shoot normally goes into its own folder with an appropriate name. Once completed my practice is to archive the folder to a network drive. I want to be able to move the folder from my work in progress catalogue to my archive catalogue. It seems I can only do this by exporting the relevant folder as a catalogue then importing that catalogue into the archive catalogue. Is there no way of doing this in one move?

You can skip the export to catalog - open the archive catalog, choose File > Import from Catalog and choose your working catalog - it should allow you to choose which of the folders to import into your archive. Once you've done that, you can delete them from your working catalog.

You might also review why you are using separate work in progress and archive catalogues. If it is only to indicate work in progress, you might use coloured labels, for example, or collections to indicate current jobs and archived ones.

I know I rant on a bit about the potential for loss of control with multiple catalogues, but if you do as Victoria says (not having a pop at you Victoria!) and import folders into the archive, you do have to remember her point about deleting from your WIP catalogue. It won't be long before you'll forget do do so, or you might not import all the folders that are finished, or import one which isn't, you'll make a few adjustments in the WIP catalogue or change the same picture's keywords in the archive, and before you know it you'll be remembering my little warning.

Thanks

Thanks - both helpful posts. I lke to keep the catalogue on my laptop light and un-clutered but yes there is no reason why one should not do it all in one catalogue. Thanks for the ideas.

That sounds like a good reason to me. I can't keep all of my photos on my laptop. Just the catalog is 8GB. When I need to focus on the job at hand, I don't want to wade through 17,''' pics with pages of irrelevant collections, keywords and metadata.

Also, I still end up working on other people's stuff a lot, and catalogs help me keep their stuff separate from mine.

I've been looking for the exact same thing. Would be extremely nice to have a simple way to "Export -> Existing Catalog" and you can choose to move or copy photos and so on.
