Move files to new folder

I hope that I can explain this clearly.

Folder A images are already imported into LR.

Folder B exists at another hierarchy. LR does not yet know about Folder B

Can I physically move the images in Folder A into Folder B from within LR and have have these photos still imported into LR?

I think you would have to import folder B (make LR aware of it) or you would not be able to move the files to it inside of LR.
I guess you could export them directly to B if you wanted to.

Given what I said above, if you moved the files with LR they would still be in the catalog and they can be accessed normally by LR.


Accessing files with two separate system can end up in a bit of a mess.
The question is, what are you trying to do?

So do you mean that you just want the files in folder A to move into folder B. Press the question mark on the Folders panel, choose New Folder and point to folder B. That'll show it in the Folders panel and you can drag the photos into there.

There is no question mark on the Folders Panel.

The physical files are in Folder A, and already imported into LR. LR does not yet know of Folder B, which is empty. I want to move the physical files from Folder A to Folder B, whilst at the same time keeping them in the LR catalogue.

Here is what I thought: Put a dummy file into Folder B. Import it into LR (LR now knows about Folder B). Then just drag the photos from A to B within LR.

Sound reasonable? Or, are there better ways.

Victoria did mean the + in the folders panel, click that and you will be able to add folder B directly. This uses the OS to locate the folder.
