Hi,

This is my first post here so I hope I'm not asking something that gets asked all the time. I recently downloaded the LR trial and am starting to appreciate what it can do. However, this morning I noticed that LR has placed the catalog and previews files on my C: drive.

This creates a problem as that drive is relatively small, although fast (1','' RPM) and I only use it for the OS and applications. Storage is on three other internal drives (and external as well).

My question: How do I move these files to another hard drive so that LR will find it again. Also, is it better to have these files on one drive and the image files on another drive?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

David

Yes it advisable to split among drives. For example: OS/applications on C:, Catalog/Previews on D:, Images on E: and Catalog Backups somewhere else than the drive holding the working catalog.

It is simple to move. Close Lightroom and copy "Lightroom Catalog-2.lrcat" and also the "Lightroom Catalog-2 Previews.lrdata" folder to the other drive. Open it from its new location by double-clicking. Now take care to tell Lightroom to ALWAYS OPEN THIS CATALOG. ->

Menu -> Preferences. In dialog box "General" tab "Default Catalog" section beside "When starting up use this catalog:" point to the new place where is your "Lightroom Catalog-2.lrcat".
