Hi All

I've just attempted to import new images from my image vault and add them to the LR catalog without moving them and I can't! The options at the top of the window only allow me to Copy As DNG or Copy. The Move and Add options are blacked out and I can't select them. This is the first time I've tried to add images since the V9.0 update. It's been driving me daft for an hour! Anyone got any clues? Thanks.

You'll see that if you're importing directly from the card.

Hi Hal

I'm not importing from the card but from and external hard drive. The only solution I've found is to create the folder where the images are in LR and then sync the folder and sure enough all the images appear. My normal workflow is to ingest from the card into Photo Mechanic which automatically creates the my desired folder structure, renames the files, adds keywords and metadata and puts the files into the folder. I then select all the images I want in Photo Mechanic and drag them to LR which adds them to the catalog. However now when I drag the files LR wants to copy them not add them to the catalog. Same deal if I directly try to import the files from the hard drive to the catalog leaving the files in situ. The Add option just is not selectable.

OK. Due to a combination of LR 9 and Catalina, Lightroom is probably seeing your external disk as a "removable" device, like a card reader. This will undoubtedly be fixed, and in the mean time, you've found a workaround.

Johan beat me to it.

I have seen this problem a few times now. Apparently this is one of the incompatibilities between Catalina and Lightroom. Lightroom thinks this is a removable drive and so it only offers the copy options.
Johan, that makes sense. I've found a workaround so I guess I'll just wait for an update to fix it. Hopefully there will enough folk with problem for Adobe to fix it soonish!
