More Stacking Pain

I had to rename my files in LR today to get ready for a new camera so had to add the model to the file name to make sure all files were unique in the future. While checking through the file system afterwards to make sure it looked ok I noticed there were lots of files that had been skipped and not renamed. On further inspection I found that these files had been marked as rejected in LR. This made some sense but when I tried to remove the rejected files using Photo/Delete Rejected Photos... it failed to find any. Then I noticed that these files were stacked. I selected all the files in the catalog and unstacked them (should have just used Expand All Stacks but hit the wrong option). Now when I used the Photo/Delete Rejected Photos... option it worked and found lots of files that I thought I had previously deleted.
I have 2 problems with this...

1) Delete Rejected Photos does not work within collapsed stacks.
2) I can't undo the unstack command so I have to re-stack all the images.

Update:

It gets worse... the stacked images were not renamed even when they were not set as rejected.

Lightroom is smart enough to know that two photos are not duplicates, even if they have the same name, if the capture date (and probably other EXIF data) is different.

So, you don't really have to do all this renaming. Does that solve the problem?

How can the two files reside in the same folder with the same name ?

Nik,

They can't, you'd have to put them into separate folders, e.g. per camera model. But LR can keep them appart, even with the same same, if in different folders.

Which is why I need to change my naming standard ;-)

I shall no longer use stacks either as they cause more trouble than they are worth in LR.

I settled on YYYYMMDD-Serial#-Image# as my new naming standard in the end.
