Hi everybody,
I`m still having this major problem with corrupted images.
I`ve been trying to resolve this for days and this is a list of conclusions and actions that I took:

New computer (it was about time anyway!)
Different cards
I`m downloading the files on the desktop (no external hard drive involved)
New card reader & cable
Happens with different cameras
If I re-upload the same corrupted image in LR it looks fine.
Every Time I launch LR a new image gets corrupted even if it was fine the day before.

"if I had a million dollar" I would give it to the person able to help me to resolve this mystery..... but unfortunately I don`t (still working on that) and I can only offer tons of smile faces :cheesy::D:lol::mrgreen::D:lol:

Let me tell straight off the bat that if Lightroom in and off itself corrupted images, there would be no end of posts all over the net about it.
We don't know what the computer is, because you've failed to add it to your signature.

Try a different cable with your card reader. Or try importing from the camera.

I`m the first one to think that it cannot be LR.
The end result is that I use LR to edit my images and there is where I see the "corruption" happening.
The computer is a 8 core Mac Pro but it happen just the same with the old Mac G5.
I changed the cables, I changed the card reader, I changed the cards, I have 3 different cameras (2 5d and 1 5d II) and it happens with all of them.
I`m sorry it wasn`t my intention to start a riot, but what else can cause this?
Mac OS problem?
What if it is LR? I downloaded my version from Adobe, any chance something went wrong?
I need to consider every possibility if I want to fix this.

If you haven't yet, try these troubleshooting steps

You'll meet a lot of resistance to the idea that Lr is corrupting your images, because Lr never(*almost) writes to your image files. When it does copy or move files, it uses the OS services for that. What it does do is uncover existing problems quite effectively.

What backup software are you running? Security, antivirus?
Are you using raw, JPG, converting to DNG?

Hmmm.....I agree can`t be LR.
I`m not running any security or antivirus , installed by me.
I'm using both raw and jpg.
I really don`t know what to do.
By the way, Is my post been removed?

troubleshooting steps question

Hi Brad,
I'm following the trobleshooting steps suggested by you and I have a quick question.
After I create a new catalog, am I suppose to re-import my original catalog saved at the beginning of the process?

Thanks

R.

The previews can get corrupted. I wonder if that's what's happening. To test that, I'd try an entirely clean catalog for a day or two and see if that solves the problem. If so, just delete your previews cache off your old catalog and let them rebuild.

Hi Victoria,
can you please respond to my previous question about re-importing the original catalog?
As for the preview corrupted is not just that, the actual raw is corrupted.
Maybe the trobleshooting steps can help....I hope!

Thanks
R.

New catalog - no, it's just for a test, so don't worry about reimporting your original catalog for now. If we narrowed it down to a corrupted catalog, then we'd consider it, but I can't see any way that a corrupted catalog could corrupt the images.

I'm still going with a hardware issue. You said you've got a new machine, new cables, new card reader..... what HASN'T changed? A hard drive that's plugged in that was on the old machine even if it's not the one you're using - absolutely anything.

Take Lightroom out of the equation. Can you copy the files off the cards manually? Can you look at them with ACR in Photoshop? Or DPP? Something that'll look at the raw data and not just the built in preview?

Are you rendering previews when importing?

Following Vic's train of thought, did you move any accessory USB devices from the old machine to the new one, at all?
A scanner, a mouse/keyboard, USB hub, anything like that in common between the two machines? Since the camera download requires USB at some point, and the entire USB bus can be impacted by a misbehaving unrelated device, perhaps there's a common factor there somewhere.
