Hello,

Still using LR beta 2, I just encountered a new problem where some thumbnails are missing in the grid view, leaving a blank space. See screenshot below:

This occurred when I was working for an hour or so, changing star ratings. When I right-click the missing photos in the filmstrip and choose "show in finder," nothing happens. However, when I go to the finder myself and navigate to the images, they are present and open fine in Preview.

Any ideas about what might be wrong? I've been using the beta for about 2 months with no problems, and this came out of nowhere.

I'm on an iMac C2D, 1GB RAM, OS X 1'.5.4.

Andrew, welcome to LR Forums. I haven't encountered or seen reports of that problem. Being a Windows user, I'll defer to the Mac folks.

BTW, 277 and 283 are nice moments.

Oh, good bug Andrew! Welcome to the forum.

I am Mac through and through these days, but I haven't seen that bug, nor heard of it.

Best suggestion for now - download the final release trial and see if that fixes it. Betas do have bugs I'm afraid.

Better, but still errors

Thanks for the replies, Victoria & Brad (and for the kind words on my little photos, Brad!).

I downloaded the final release trial as you suggested, and the missing thumbnails now show up. That's a vast improvement. But now they have the "!" symbol, indicating problems reading the photo.

In most cases, when I click on the photo with a "!" it seems to fix itself after a second or so. But some images show three lines and a "!", indicating "sidecar file has conflict". When I click on that symbol, I get the error shown in the screenshot below, and I can get rid of the "!" by clicking "import settings from disk." However, metadata seems gone. Keywords are missing, and even the image dimensions are listed as "nil x nil".

But the weird thing is that this fix is only temporary. If I scroll away from the images, and then come back, all the exclamation points are back. The images seem to be okay (I can edit them, and the edits remain even after scrolling away), but the exclamation points are still worrisome.

Thankfully, this problem seems limited to a couple dozen pictures and doesn't seem to be spreading, but if anyone has ideas or suggestions, I'd be grateful. In every other way, I've been delighted since discovering Lightroom. Thanks!

Andrew
