Following a crash of my MacBook pro during an import to Lightroom classic, I ended up in a situation where there are a few photos that show up in the finder as on my hard drive in the right place, but they do not show up as thumbnails in grid view. Lightroom won't re-import the photos, because it knows that it already tried to import them. I'm looking for a way of getting these photos back into Lightroom.

Since your catalog shows this as missing, it will also show the path where they were last when imported. You need to find these missing photos in finder and either tell Lightroom where they are now or put them back in the folder (path) where Lightroom expects them to be.
