After creating a new catalogue because I had moved so many files on disk and then importing, I moved one set of images and now LR says it cannot locate them but if i try to import them at their new location it says theyre already in the catalogue

I tried relaunch and optimize and I tried moving the files in LR to the folder that actually corresponds on disk but it says an error occurred and wont let me move them

What to do?

Maybe try this: make sure NO filters are in effect then attempt a search for one of the photos?

I can SEE the photos in the folder OK but they have a question mark on them:frown:

Click on the ?, and in the dialog that pops up, navigate to the new location. LR will automatically find others that have been similarly moved.

Tried that. This is exactly what I did but it wont import them saying they're a;ready in the catalogue

And if you click on the question mark? Are you given the option to locate the photo?

ahh I misunderstood. Tried it and it seemed to be doing it right but then they all had an exclamation mark where the ? mark was. Clicking onit gave the meassage that LR had encountered a problem reading the photos

It hung half way through so I cancelled and went back to the problem folder and clicked on the remaining images' ? mark and it says the file is associated with another photo in the catalogue and you can only have one

Could the confusion be from having two drives , one with all the images backed up on it?
